MEDITATION sessions have started at Echuca Neighbourhood House.
Carol Collings is running two meditation groups a week after discovering the benefits of the practice.
‘‘When I discovered meditation for myself I knew it could benefit everyone, children included,’’ she said.
‘‘After years of working with children in schools and child care, I found that stress in families was forever increasing. Children were struggling to learn.
‘‘While I was still working in a school setting I was able to run a meditation group for a few children at lunch times and I could see the interest was there.’’
Carol said she had tried and practised various meditations on her own and in groups with experienced teachers over the past few years.
‘‘I have had a few struggles of my own and suffered with IBS but I believe that meditation helped me immensely,’’ she said.
‘‘My goal is for the families in this community to learn to meditate and maybe even teach others. We live in a very busy society and I want to show everyone how quick and easy it is to do short meditations just about anywhere.’’
She said benefits included improved immune system, brain function and sleep, increased blood flow and decreased pain associated with disease.
‘‘I am very passionate about meditation and hope that by providing a variety of groups, times and low prices it could encourage others to join,’’ she said.
Relaxation through meditation will be held on Mondays from 1.30pm to 2.30pm.
Family meditation will held on Tuesdays, from May 29 to June 26, from 4.30pm to 5.15pm.
The cost is $10 per session, which will be held at ENH.
