Much more than Mainly Music

February 05, 2018

FOLLOWING their jam-packed, fun-filled year, the Mainly Music program is on again for 2018 beginning February 8.

New Life Baptist Church will be running the program and encourages all families to get involved.

Mainly Music aims to build relationships between parents and children, in a fun and safe environment while also teaching children basic nutrition habits with a delicious morning tea and, of course, musical skills.

The classes begin at 10am on Thursdays and include 30 minutes of music and movement between parents and children which improves hand-eye co-ordination and social interactions for all pre-school aged children.

Parents are encouraged to participate and help their child develop new skills in the interactive and educational sessions.

Following the musical part of the session, children are provided with healthy snacks and are able to interact with the other participants to learn some social skills.

Toys are provided as entertainment for the children to allow the parents to have some much needed rest time and to build relationships with other parents from the surrounding community while enjoying the morning tea on offer.

Mainly Music coodinator Katie Wong is welcoming anyone who wished to join the program.

‘‘It’s a great way for other mums, dads and grandparents to come along and meet each other,’’ she said.

‘‘I think a lot of people feel isolated, especially when they first have children.

‘‘So this is a great environment for people to come along and participate and enjoy making music with their children.

‘‘Some of the songs have a focus on God, but it’s all done in a very non-confrontational way.

‘‘Lots of familes have commented on how welcomed they have felt.

‘‘It’s great for families to relax, be themselves and feel supported.’’

Sessions end at the leisure of participants, encouraging conversation and friendships to blossom well after families have left the program.

The program is open for all under school aged children.

The program runs out of the Salvos’ Hall in Echuca every Thursday at 10am.

Families interested in registering their children for Mainly Music or needing more information can phone or text Katie Wong on 0425 718 461.
