ECHUCA library will combine reading with the outdoors tomorrow by offering the Storywalk Project as part of the Australian Reading Hour.
Library services manager Jenny Mustey said The Australian Reading Hour was an important annual campaign encouraging Australians of all ages to read and to celebrate with families.
The Storywalk will be offered from 10am – 5pm.
‘‘The premise is simple — pick up a book at any time of the day or night and read for an hour,’’ she said.
‘‘The community is invited to head down to the Echuca library and be part of Australia’s biggest celebration of books and reading.’’
Storywalk is an interactive way for children to engage in reading whilst spending time outdoors.
Laminated pages from a children’s book will be displayed along the pathway outside the library.
As children and families walk along the trail, they will be directed to the next page of the story.
‘‘We like to make the outdoor experience fun and through Storywalk, children collect little stickers as they follow the story and then place them on a special picture at the end,’’ Ms Mustey said.
‘‘Families are encouraged to bring along a picnic morning or afternoon tea or even lunch and enjoy Australian Reading Hour celebrations on the lawn area outside the library or at the Aquatic Reserve.’’
