MOAMA and Mathoura residents are encouraged to have a chat with their local police over coffee later this month.
Coffee with a Cop provides an opportunity for community members to ask questions and learn more about the police work occurring in Moama and Mathoura.
Superintendent Paul Condon of Deniliquin Local Area Command said it would be an informal event to discuss community issues, build relationships and drink coffee.
‘‘The most contacts law enforcement has with the public happen during emergencies, or emotional situations,’’ he said.
‘‘Those situations are not always the most effective times for relationship building with the community and some community members may feel officers are unapproachable on the street.’’
Supt Condon said Coffee with a Cop was about breaking down barriers, allowing for relaxed, one-on-one interaction.
‘‘We hope that community members will feel comfortable to ask questions, bring concerns, or simply get to know our officers,” he said.
‘‘These interactions are the foundation of community partnerships.’’
Coffee with a Cop will be held on Tuesday, August 29, at 10am at Three Black Sheep, Perricoota Rd, Moama.
