Winter parkrun heating up

July 17, 2017

Cohuna will hit the ground running on Saturday when it launches its first weekly parkrun.

DUST off your runners and rug up for the weekly Echuca-Moama parkrun on Saturday.

Going into its 11th week the run is free and everyone can participate — you don’t have to be a runner.

Walk, run, take your dog or push a pram, it is aimed at going at your own pace and competing against yourself.

The aim of the game is to challenge yourself and improve your time each week.

Organiser Anthony Farrant said the perception in the wider community is that you have to be a serious runner.

‘‘This is far from the truth,’’ he said.

Although the highest number of participants was on the opening morning in May with 231 taking part Anthony said they were averaging more than half that each week.

‘‘We are averaging between 120 to 130 runners and walkers each Saturday, which is a great effort but we would love to see more members of the community come down and give it a go,’’ he said.

You must bring along your printed bar code for scanning each week so your time can be recorded.

The event kicks off at 8am at Echuca Lions Club Park at the corner of Campaspe Esplanade and Ogilvie Ave.
