FRIENDS of the Moama-Echuca Botanic Gardens recently welcomed about 80 senior community members from the Campaspe region for morning tea.

It was part of Seniors Week celebrations and involved a tour of the gardens by Friends of the Gardens volunteers, followed by scones and tea.

Starting at 9.45am groups arrived from near and far and included Southern Cross Care Moama Residential Aged Care, Wharparilla Lodge from Echuca Community for the Aged, Bupa Aged Care and Campaspe Assisted Living group from Lockington as well as seniors from within the Echuca-Moama community.

Wharparilla volunteer Peter Young said the day was great for seniors to get out in the fresh air.

“It’s a bit different and I think everyone enjoyed themselves, especially having the significance of the gardens explained is fantastic,” he said.

“To finish it off with a cuppa and scones makes it a perfect outing.”

Friends of the Moama-Echuca Botanic Gardens president Tim Barden said the gardens were a depiction of the riverine plain with some non-indigenous plants also featuring.

“I’d like to thank all the volunteers and I hope everyone enjoyed the day.”

The third stage of the botanic gardens development is currently under construction to add to the already completed boardwalk and island, called the Dry Billabong.
